GSI's AP (Automated Production System) brand recently opened a high-tech extrusion facility to produce PVC products for pork production. The 40,000-square-foot facility is adjacent to Associated Press’s existing manufacturing facility in Tylerville, Illinois.

Products include PVC panels for driving ventilation applications, wall panels, animal enclosures, evaporative cooling system components, and Flex-Flo pipes and elbows for feed systems. The plant has 5 extrusion lines, which operate 24 hours a day, 5 or 7 days a week, depending on demand.

Previously, PVC products were produced at GSI's headquarters factory in Assumption, Illinois. AP product manager Brian Rieck said that relocating the production site to Taylorville is not only more efficient, but also allows AP to incorporate the latest PVC production technology.

"Our new extrusion equipment is the most advanced in terms of automation and quality control," he said. "This will ensure that we can well meet the needs of pork producers in the future and continue to provide high-quality and reliable products to support their successful operations."

To promote sustainability and efficiency, new facilities include environmental controls to reduce and eliminate waste, online processing to eliminate multi-stage operations, and new tool designs to reduce startup time and materials.
